Security Deposits and Fees
Membership Fee
Each membership pays a $5.00 membership fee (one per member). If you disconnect all services with Baldwin EMC, this membership fee will be refunded.
Account Fees
Account Fee for a meter set (existing meter) or transfer is $25.00
Account Fee for a new service (no meter at that location before) is $50.00
The account fee is not a refundable deposit. It is a service fee to help cover the cost of setting up your new or additional accounts. If you are already a member and you apply for an additional account, you will be charged an account fee.
Line Extension Fees
Line extension fees may apply for either overhead and underground new service construction. Our engineering department will notify you of the required fees.
Residential ServicesThe terms and conditions for residential consumer deposits are as follows:
1. Applicants for first time service:
The standard residential deposit for a new account will be the greater of $350.00 or 2 1/2 months estimated billing. Applicants with an acceptable credit score may secure a residential service with no deposit or a reduced deposit of $200.00.
2. Existing members establishing new or additional service:
Members who have received service continuously for the preceding 12 months from the cooperative, have not been on the collection list more than once in the last 12 months, have no more than one insufficient funds check in the last 12 months, and have not been disconnected for non-payment in the last 12 months may have their existing deposit reduced to $200.00 or may secure an additional service with no deposit. Applicants with a prior account listed as uncollectible or past due may secure service upon paying any amount owed the cooperative and a deposit of the greater of $350.00 or 2 1/2 months estimated billing.
3. Deposit upgrade program:
Residential deposits will be increased to the greater of $350 or 2 ½ months averaged billing on accounts which:
A. Have been disconnected for non-payment in the last 12 months
B. Have been on the collection list more than once during the past 12 months
C. Register more than one insufficient funds check during the past 12 months

Commercial and Industrial Services
The terms and conditions for commercial and industrial consumer deposits are as follows:
1. Applicants for first time service:
Deposit requirements will be the equivalent of three (3) months estimated billing or a deposit amount established, on a case by case basis, by action of the Board of Trustees. Commercial deposits may be in the form of cash, surety bond, or certificate of deposit.
2. Existing commercial or industrial members:
Members who have received service continuously for the preceding 24 months from the cooperative and have not been on the collection list more than once in the last 12 months, have no more than one insufficient funds check in the last 12 months, and have not been disconnected for non-payment in the last 12 months may secure a service or an additional service with one-half (1/2) of the standard deposit requirement and may receive refund of the existing deposit down to one-half (1/2) of the standard deposit (one and one-half months estimated billing). Applicants with a prior account listed as uncollectible or past due may secure service upon paying any amount owed the Cooperative and the deposit requirement.
3. Deposit upgrade program:
Non-residential deposits will be increased to three (3) months averaged billing on accounts which:
A. Have been disconnected for non-payment in the last 12 months
B. Have been on the collection list more than once during the past 12 months
C. Register more than one insuffi cient funds check during the past 12 months
