Baldwin EMC representatives are issuing an urgent warning to the cooperative’s members about a phone scam. The alert follows a recent report of a member being scammed by a caller claiming to represent Baldwin EMC, demanding a large amount of money to repair their meter.
This was not a legitimate call from Baldwin EMC and is not in line with the co-op’s procedures. While Baldwin EMC does use phone contacts to communicate important information, members will never be forced to pay money over the phone.
If you receive a call from someone claiming to represent Baldwin EMC who tries to force you to pay money over the phone, please be aware that this is probably a scam. Don’t give out any sensitive information to anyone you don’t trust. And if you receive a suspicious call, please report it to Baldwin EMC by calling (251) 989-6247 or (800) 837-3374.
