CEO Karen Moore
“That’s almost miraculous.”
This statement was made by a Baldwin EMC employee upon learning that Baldwin EMC recently celebrated one year with no accidents or injuries resulting in lost work time.
When I think about the treacherous conditions we worked in following Hurricanes Sally and Zeta, I’m inclined to agree with her.
Year after year, electric utility work consistently ranks in the top ten most dangerous professions in the United States. And yet, somehow, day after day for the past year, every single Baldwin EMC employee has gone home safely to their loved ones.
Our team’s unwavering commitment to safety never ceases to amaze me. The long hours of training, the weight of personal protective equipment, the extra steps taken every day to ensure we’re all doing our part to create a safe working environment, are responsibilities our employees take on with diligence and dedication.
We also encourage all of our employees to speak up and hold each other accountable for safety. By cultivating a culture of openness and transparency, we promote proactive problem-solving with regard to safety.
And because we live and work in the community we serve, we also care about our neighbors. As we press through the final months of hurricane season, as always, I want to remind you that we put ourselves on the line so that you don’t have to. We can replace a downed pole, a snapped line or a blown transformer. We cannot replace a life. Please, please, always treat Baldwin EMC equipment with respect by giving it space. I know it’s cool to look at, but touching, moving or driving over electric distribution equipment is dangerous to say the least. If you ever see something that doesn’t look right with your electrical service, call us. It’s our job to make things right, and our crews are trained to do it in ways that keep everyone safe.
We also hope you’ll look to Baldwin EMC as a resource for valuable information that can help you and your family stay safe around electricity. After all, it’s a part of our life, and the storms we endured last year reminded us just how vital it is. Staying safe around it is critically important as well.
As always, you can go to our website or any of our social media channels for tips and information. And if you ever have any questions about electrical safety, we’re a phone call away.
