(SUMMERDALE, Ala.) – Baldwin EMC is excited to announce the latest recipients of the Shining Star Student award. These students were nominated for displaying characteristics of integrity, innovation, accountability and commitment to community.

Julisa Alvarez, an eighth-grade student at Elberta Middle School, was named Baldwin EMC’s Shining Star Student of the Month for August. She was nominated by her ESL teacher, Janett Siler.

Siler wrote in her nomination that Julisa’s perseverance is what sets her apart. “She demonstrates that success is not simply about being the best or having an easy path. It is about having the courage to keep going, the commitment to work hard, and the character to lift others up along the way,” wrote Siler. “She is the type of student who makes the people around her feel supported and valued.”

Rozhia Wilson, an eighth-grade student at Daphne Middle School, was named Baldwin EMC’s Shining Star Student of the Month for September. He was nominated by his Social Studies teacher, Tiffany Holt.

Holt shares that Rozhia is a student who already demonstrates a strong understanding of leadership. “I was incredibly impressed with his ability to read the room and step in and support the classroom,” wrote Holt. “He shines so bright and he is going to continue to do incredible things.”

The awards were presented by WALA FOX 10 TVs Meteorologist Kelly Foster and Baldwin EMCs Education and Public Relations Specialist Caroline Shanor.
