Baldwin EMC is excited to announce the latest recipients of the Shining Star Student award. These students were nominated for displaying the Touchstone Energy characteristics of integrity, innovation, accountability and commitment to community.
Pedro Paiva Silva, a seventh grade student at Foley Middle School, was named Baldwin EMC’s Shining Star Student of the Month for April. He was nominated by faculty member Dr. Annie Shoots.
Dr. Shoots wrote in her nomination, “Pedro is truly a shining star academically, socially and ethically! While maintaining an ‘A’ average in class, Pedro assists students within his learning pod and class with various collaborative activities. Well aware of the staffing shortages among COVID-19 and in-school learning, Pedro goes the extra mile by often staying behind class to sweep the floor and empty trash, as I sanitize my desks. Every day as he exits the room, he asks me, ‘May I help you?’ I am so humble at his willingness to assist. He is truly a blessing and so worthy of your Shining Star award!” Silva was presented with a Shining Star Student certificate and a $50 Visa gift card.
Joshua Miller, a seventh grade student at Bay Minette Middle School, was named Baldwin EMC’s Shining Star Student of the Month for May. He was nominated by faculty member Renee Richardson.
Ms. Richardson wrote in her nomination, “I am nominating Josh for this award because he embodies what it means to be a great student and individual. He doesn’t mind helping others when needed, including his teachers. His classmates often brag on him and his ability to help others and to make them smile while doing so. Despite the positive attention from his peers, he is one of the most humble students that I have ever taught. Josh deserves this award because the light he has over his life shines bright each and every day with everyone he comes in contact with. Plus, he has awesome memes that he sends to his teachers at least once a week.” Miller was presented with a Shining Star Student certificate and a $50 Visa gift card.
The awards were presented by WALA FOX 10 TV’s meteorologist Michael White and Baldwin EMC representative Kim Frank.
