Baldwin EMC is excited to announce the latest recipients of the Shining Star Student award. These students were nominated for displaying characteristics of integrity, innovation, accountability and commitment to community.
Malaya Copley, an eighth-grade student at Summerdale Middle School, was named Baldwin EMC’s Shining Star Student of the Month for December. She was nominated by her teacher, Mariah Townsend.
Townsend wrote in her nomination that Malaya always does the right thing, even when no one is looking. “She is helpful to me, and she is always willing to help out her classmates as well,” wrote Townsend. “Whether it is by showing them how to work a math problem or by helping them come up with the right word, she is always there to help.”
Carter White, a seventh-grade student at Central Baldwin Middle School, was named Baldwin EMC’s Shining Star Student of the Month for January. He was nominated by his teacher, Tracy Murphy.
Carter is described by his teacher as an exceptional student. “He comes in every day with manners and a great attitude; he greets his teachers and peers with a smile on his face,” wrote Murphy. “Carter sets an excellent example of leadership in the classroom and throughout the school, he is always willing to help others and does so with a positive attitude.”
The awards were presented by WALA FOX 10 TVs Meteorologist Nicholas Herboso and Baldwin EMCs Education and Public Relations Specialist Caroline Shanor.
