Baldwin EMC is excited to announce the latest recipients of the Shining Star Student award. These students were nominated for displaying the Touchstone Energy characteristics of integrity, innovation, accountability and commitment to community.
Mattie Claire Burnette, an eighth grade student at Central Baldwin Middle School, was named Baldwin EMC’s Shining Star Student of the Month for October.
Burnette’s teacher wrote in her nomination, “Mattie is such a well-rounded young lady. She is very responsible and always has a smile on her face and a humble heart. She is always kind to every person. She is a natural leader and volunteers her time to help the young and old. She spends time babysitting at home and working in the local antique shop. At school, she helps teachers with decorating and even creating some lessons. She gives her time to tutor her peers. Mattie has been through some tragedy in her own personal world. However, she continues to give back to her community and strives to be a successful adult.” Burnette was presented with a Shining Star Student certificate and a $50 Visa gift card.
Haley Burnett, a seventh grade student at Elberta Middle School, was named Baldwin EMC’s Shining Star Student of the Month for November.
Burnett’s teacher wrote in her nomination, “Even as a new student here at EMS herself, Haley has been integral in helping orient and welcome other new students at school. She has been pulled last minute to eat with new students during lunch, show them around school, and befriend them. In addition to new students, she goes out of her way to include anyone around her. She is always up to the task of helping in any way possible and does so with a contagious smile. She is a prime example of a Shining Star on our campus and, although she would never expect recognition, she absolutely deserves the honor and would be so appreciative.” Burnett was presented with a Shining Star Student certificate and a $50 Visa gift card.
The awards were presented by WALA FOX 10 TV’s meteorologist Michael White and Baldwin EMC representative Kim Frank.
