Baldwin EMC announced today that it has chosen four local students to represent the cooperative as part of the 2024 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. They are: Luke Garrett from Baldwin County High School, Claire Colvin and Skylar Gant from Gulf Shores High School and Ethan Parker from Snook Christian Academy.
In March, these four will join students from throughout the state for a trip to Montgomery, Ala. They’ll participate in meetings with elected officials, leadership and character-building workshops, and tours of many of the city’s historic sights and monuments.
In June, Garrett, Colvin, Gant and Parker will experience a week-long educational tour of Washington, D.C., with close to 2,000 students from across the nation. In addition to visiting various monuments, memorials and museums, participants will meet with their U.S. senators and representatives.
The National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour was created to give students an up-close look at statewide and national governments and develop a better understanding of the important role cooperatives play in their communities.
