Baldwin EMC has chosen four local students to represent the cooperative as part of this year’s National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. They are: Abbie Hobbs, who is homeschooled, Webb Hutchinson from Fairhope High School, Rachel Potter from Spanish Fort High School, and Destiny Watson from Robertsdale High School.

In March, these four will join students from throughout the state for a trip to Montgomery, Ala. They’ll participate in question and answer sessions with elected officials, along with tours of the Civil Rights Memorial, the Capitol and the State House Judicial Building among other stops.

In June, Hobbs, Hutchinson, Potter and Watson will participate in a week-long adventure with 1,500 students from across the nation in Washington, D.C. In addition to visiting various monuments, memorials and museums, participants will meet with their U.S. senators and representatives.

The National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour was created to give students an up-close look at statewide and national governments and develop a better understanding of the important role cooperatives play in their communities.
