Once again, Baldwin EMC is calling on members of the community to celebrate the season of giving by rolling up their sleeves to save lives. The co-op will host the 14th annual Power of Giving blood, coat and non-perishable food drive at the Baldwin EMC headquarters office in Summerdale on Thursday, Nov. 14.
“Our theme this year is ‘Give together. Live together. Together we are unstoppable,’” said Baldwin EMC Vice President of Corporate Services and Public Relations Mark Ingram. “For anyone who thinks one blood donation can’t make much of a difference, we want to stress that each donation can save up to three lives. And all the donations collected through LifeSouth stay right here in our community. We hope everyone will consider stopping by to roll up your sleeve. Those few minutes out of your day could end up making a major difference in the life of a friend or neighbor.”
Staff members from LifeSouth Community Blood Centers will be set up in Baldwin EMC’s Training Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to take blood donations. In order to give blood, you must be in good health, 17 years of age or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and show a valid photo I.D. All blood donors will be entered into a drawing for the chance to win a $100 Visa gift card or an electric grill.
New this year, Infirmary Health will be on-site with their new Cancer Screening Bus, which offers skin cancer spot checks, clinical breast exams and other screenings. The bus is free and open to the public, and no appointments are necessary.
Non-perishable food items will also be collected during the event. Additionally, Baldwin EMC is accepting children’s coats and jackets in new condition Nov. 1 – 27. These donations will be given to local charities to be distributed to children in need throughout the community.
