Operation Round Up Presents Grants to Five Local Agencies

The Baldwin County Electric Membership Charitable Foundation recently awarded grants to five local nonprofit organizations to support a variety of community-focused programs:

  • Sea Glass Initiative – To support the “Transforming Homelessness into Hope” program, which serves individuals experiencing homelessness in Baldwin County.
  • American Heart Association of the Alabama Gulf Coast – To help purchase CPR and first aid training materials for use in Baldwin County schools.
  • Baldwin County Sheriff’s Boys Ranch – To support its residential program, providing a safe, nurturing home environment for young men.
  • Family Promise of Baldwin County – To assist with the organization’s rehousing and homelessness prevention efforts.
  • Ecumenical Ministries, Inc. – To support its emergency aid services and the Repair Baldwin home repair program.

Since 2004, Baldwin EMC’s Operation Round Up program has collected money for charitable causes by rounding up participating members’ electric bills to the next highest dollar amount. The extra change is then used to fund grants. To date, the program has distributed more than $7 million in grants to local agencies and individuals in need. Grants must meet one of six qualifying categories: food, clothing, shelter, health, environment, and education.
