The Baldwin County Electric Membership Charitable Foundation recently presented grants to five local agencies. Those agencies include the following:
• Thomas Hospital Foundation, to support their efforts to develop a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program at Thomas Hospital in Malbis, the first of its kind in Baldwin County.
• One More Moment, Inc., which seeks to provide support and educational resources for parents of children facing mental health crises.
• North Baldwin Ecumenical Association, which provides financial assistance for emergency aid, such as housing and food, to residents of north Baldwin County.
• Robertsdale Rotary Foundation, to support their efforts to send residents to Camp ASCCA (Alabama’s Special Camp for Children and Adults) and the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards development program.
• Youth Reach Gulf Coast, which is a long-term, residential program designed to turn around the lives of at-risk young men aged 18 to 22.
Since 2004, Baldwin EMC’s Operation Round Up program has collected money for charitable causes by rounding up participating members’ electric bills to the next highest dollar amount. The extra change is then used to fund grants. To date, the program has distributed more than $6.5 million in grants to local agencies and individuals in need. Grants must meet one of six qualifying categories: food, clothing, shelter, health, environment, and education.
