The Baldwin County Electric Membership Charitable Foundation recently presented grants to four local agencies. Those agencies include the following:
- The North Baldwin Literacy Council, in support of the organization’s GED instruction and testing program.
- Neighborhood Bridges, to support the organization’s efforts to meet emergency housing, food and clothing needs for Baldwin County residents.
- The Legacy for Restoration, in support of the organization’s “Restoration to Independence” tiny house building program.
- Youth Reach Gulf Coast, a long-term, residential program designed to turn around the lives of at-risk young men aged 18 to 22.
Since 2004, Baldwin EMC’s Operation Round Up program has collected money for charitable causes by rounding up participating members’ electric bills to the next highest dollar amount. The extra change is then used to fund grants. To date, the program has distributed more than $7 million in grants to local agencies and individuals in need. Grants must meet one of six qualifying categories: food, clothing, shelter, health, environment, and education.
