(SUMMERDALE, Ala.) – The Baldwin County Electric Membership Charitable Foundation recently awarded grants to eight local agencies. Those agencies include the following:

• Catholic Social Services, in support of the agency’s utility bill assistance program for Baldwin County residents
• Christian Service Center, which offers financial assistance to help cover living expenses for local residents
• Bay Minette / Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a program facilitated by the Bay Minette Public Library to provide a free monthly book for local kids ages five and under.
• Dream Center of Baldwin County, an organization that helps disadvantaged youth rebuild and transform their lives through mentoring and diversion programs.
• The Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation, which provides programs, services, and resources to support the social and emotional well-being of youth across Baldwin County.
• Robertsdale Rotary Foundation, to support their efforts to send residents to Camp ASCCA (Alabama’s Special Camp for Children and Adults) and the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards development program.
• Sea Glass Initiative, in support of the organization’s Homelessness to Hope program, which provides housing action plans, hot meals, job skills and career development resources.
• American Heart Association, to support the purchase of CPR and First Aid kits for middle and high schools throughout Baldwin County

Since 2004, Baldwin EMC’s Operation Round Up program has collected money for charitable causes by rounding up participating members’ electric bills to the next highest dollar amount. The extra change is then used to fund grants. To date, the program has distributed more than $7 million in grants to local agencies and individuals in need. Grants must meet one of six qualifying categories: food, clothing, shelter, health, environment, and education.
